Caring for the Wounded Soldiers
Every year, more then 10,000 IDF soldiers -
wounded during terrorists' attacks and military
operations - are rushed to one of 15 hospitals
throughout Israel. From personal care packages
that provide such items as underwear and towels;
to cellular phones, Internet, and cable
television access; to recreational facilities
built specifically for hospitals, the FIDF -
along with the association for the Wellbeing of
Israel's Soldiers - provides the kind of caring
support that helps make the wounded soldier's
recovery a little more bearable - especially
during the long, hard hours of recuperation and
rehabilitation.
The program for
Widows & Children of Fallen Soldiers
Fulfilling the Biblical
injunction to "uphold the right of the orphan, and
defend the cause of the widow" (Isaiah 1:17), the
Friends of the IDF annually serves the special
needs of nearly two thousand bereaved individuals
- providing compassion, consolation, and stability
to families that have suffered the irretrievable
losses of beloved husbands and fathers.
Bar / Bat Mitzvah
Camp
In Jewish tradition, when a
child celebrates a Bar or Bat Mitzvah, it marks
that individual's passage into adulthood. For a
child whose parent has been killed in action, one
of the first obligations is to recite the Kaddish
prayer. Thus, what is normally a joyous
celebration becomes instead a painful reminder of
the lasting void in his or her young life.
The Bar / Bat Mitzvah Summer
Camp program, sponsored by the FIDF, reminds these
children that there are people around the world,
who care about them and who are prepared to ensure
that this moment in their lives is marked by
warmth and love. These special children are given
the opportunity to visit the United States and to
spend several weeks meeting Americans their age
while touring and staying at a summer camp.
